PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a user-friendly hair iron capable of straightening or curling a user's hair by an easier operation, and a method for using the same.SOLUTION: A hair iron 10 includes a first hair winding part 30 having a first hair holding surface 36a, and a second hair winding part 40 having a second hair holding surface 46a that faces the first hair holding surface 36a. In a state that the first hair winding part 30 and the second hair winding part 40 are closed, a predetermined gap d is provided between the first hair holding surface 36a and the second hair holding surface 46a.
