To perform straightening and curling of hair by one unit of a hair iron while having a simple constitution and being easy to use.

This hair iron is equipped with an iron pipe 1 and a heating means 2 which heats the iron pipe 1. The iron pipe 1 of which the outer shape is approximately circular is split in two, a receiving pipe 3 and a pressing pipe 4. The receiving pipe 3 and the pressing pipe 4 are pivotally connected so as to be relatively turnable. The contact surfaces of the receiving pipe 3 and the pressing pipe 4 are used as the surface of a straightening iron S. The outer peripheral surface which becomes approximately circular of the receiving pipe 3 and the pressing pipe 4 being joined is used as a curling surface C. An operation section 5 which separates the receiving pipe 3 from the pressing pipe 4 is provided. Then, a spring 6 which urges the pressing pipe 4 in a manner to come into contact with the receiving pipe 3 is provided.
