To enable hair to be set quickly, easily, and securely by giving solution of a substance containing a mercapto group to hair.
When ultrasonic vibration is given to hair 2 to set the hair 2 using a hair setter 4, solution of a substance containing a mercapto group is given to the hair 2. As a substance containing a mercapto group, the protein component contained in the hair 2 can be preferably used, for instance, cysteine can be used. Mercaptobenzoic acid also can be used. The solution of a substance containing a mercapto group can be given, for instance, by applying the solution to the hair 2. It is allowed to give ultrasonic vibration to the hair 2 after applying the solution to the hair 2, or otherwise to apply the solution of a substance containing a mercapto group giving ultrasonic vibration to the hair 2. After drying the hair 2 applied with the solution of a substance containing a mercapto group, ultrasonic vibration can be given to the hair 2.
