To obtain the subject composition free from cationic silicone derivative, effective for protecting split hairs and easily rinsable from the hair by including fucose and a specific fatty acid ester.

The objective composition is produced by including (A) fucose and (B) a fatty acid ester expressed by the formula (R is a 6-12C alkyl; R1 is a 14-22C alkyl) (e.g. cetyl octanoate or stearyl heptanoate) and excluding a cationic silicone derivative. The amounts of the components A and B in the composition are preferably about 0.1-5 wt.% and 1-20 wt.%, respectively. Addition of preferably 0.5-10 wt.% of amorphous silica to the above composition is effective for improving the performance of especially a gelled composition.
