Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide halistatin 1 which is useful as a material for anticancer drugs.
CONSTITUTION: Halistatin 1 is shown by the formula. This compound is obtained from the sponge Phkellia-carteri gathered in the west Indian Ocean by extracting with methanol-dichloromethane and distributing between hexane-dichloromethane. The yield is 8.8×10-7%. It causes accumulation of cells arrested in mitosis, inhibits tubulin polymerization, inhibits the binding of radiolabeled vinblastine and GTP to tubulin and exerts an ED50 of 4×10-4 μg/ml to P388 cell line of NCI based on NCI protocol. Halistin 1 suppresses the growth of tumor cells of such as leukemia, non-small-cell lung cancer, small cell lung cancer, colic cancer, CNS cancer, melanoma, ovarian cancer and kidney cancer.
