Abstract:

To provide a new method for producing a halogen-substituted benzene dimethanol.

This method for producing the halogen-substituted benzene dimethanol (4) is characterized by comprising a first process of obtaining an N,N,N',N'-tetrakis(alkoxycarbonyl)benzene dicarboxamide compound by reacting a halogen-substituted benzene dicarboxamide compound with a dialkyl pyrocarbonate, and a second process of reducing the N,N,N',N'-tetrakis(alkoxycarbonyl)benzene dicarboxamide compound by a boron hydride compound to obtain the halogen-substituted benzene dimethanol expressed by formula (4) [wherein, X1 to X4 are each H or a halogen atom].
