Abstract:
PURPOSE:To easily produce the halogenated pyridine carbaldehyde deriv. useful as the starting material for halogenated pyridine carbaldehyde by subjecting halogenated cyano-pyridines to a contact reduction in the presence of an acid and alcohol. CONSTITUTION:The halogenated cyanopyridine expressed by formula II (X is a halogen atom) is obtd. by halogenating cyanopyridine. The halogenated pyridine is subjected to the contact reduction by using a hydrogenated catalyst in the presence of the acid and the alcohol expressed by R-OH (R is an alkyl group). As a result, the halogenated pyridine carbaldehyde deriv. expressed by formula I is obtd. The halogenated pyridine carbaldehyde which is an intermediary product for medical and agricultural chemicals is industrially obtd. by hydrolyzing the halogenated pyridine carbaldehyde deriv. in the presence of the acid catalyst.
