To provide a hand dryer capable of efficient drying hands without indicating the insertion direction of the hands and capable of shortening a drying time while keeping a dry state in a drying chamber.
The hand dryer includes: a body 1 forming an outer shell; an electric blower 2 disposed in the body 1 and sending an air flow; a drying chamber 3 drying hands inserted from an opening section of the body 1; hand detecting units 4 detecting the hands inserted into the drying chamber 3 and actuating the electric blower 2; an air inlet 5 disposed on the lower surface of the body 1; nozzles 6 in which air sucked from the air inlet 5 and passing through the electric blower 2 is sent as the air flow; a control unit 7 processing input signals detected by the hand detecting units 4 and starting the electric blower 2; and a drain outlet 8 draining water collected on the bottom of the drying chamber 3. The hand detecting elements disposed in matrix formed in the hand detecting units 4 recognize the palm of the hand and the back of the hand.
