Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide soft hand-off to a call between mobiles in a cellular communication system. CONSTITUTION: A cellular radio communication system is provided with a data base containing the information of all calls in the system. When a first mobile requests the hand-off from a first cell to a second cell, the data base sends the call data about the call to the second cell and a third cell where a second mobile exists. Thereafter, the first and second cells receive radio communication from the first mobile, convert the content of the radio communication into electronic data, packetize the electronic data, and transfer the packetized data to the third cell. Wheat the third cell receives new destination information from the data base, the cell starts transmission of the packetized information to the first and second cells from the second mobile.
