To provide a mobile communication system wherein no inefficient packet transfer takes place when handed over.
A mobile terminal 1 is assigned with an old care of address in a communication area of an old access router 11 and enabled communication with an opposite terminal 4. Just before the mobile terminal 1 moves to a communication area of a new access router 12, a coupled update message is transmitted to a branch point router 13. The branch point router 13 is a router in a node at which a route from the opposite terminal 4 to the old access router 11 and a route from the opposite terminal 4 to a new access router 12 are branched. The branch point router 13 transfers a packet addressed to the old care of address to a new care of address assigned to the mobile terminal 1 in a communication area of the new access router 12.
