To provide a handrail manufacturable at low cost by pressuring type hand lay up method, having high weather resistance and high strength, light in weight, easily transportable and installable, durable for a long period, and formed of an FRP formed body and a method of manufacturing the handrail.
A core 2A is manufactured by using a PVC pipe far smaller than an elbow pipe 2, a glass fiber cloth 2a is wrapped therearound, a thermosetting resin 2b (containing hardening agent and hardening promoting agent) is applied on the entire surface thereof, and these steps are repeated until the formed body 2 is formed in a prescribed size. After a releasing agent is applied onto the inner surface of a steel compression mold 10 comprising a cope 10A and a drag 10B, a gel coat agent is applied thereto and heated and hardened. Then, the formed body 2C is pushed into the drag 10B and the cope 10A is put thereon. All projected parts 12A and 12B are fixed with bolts 13 and nuts 14, and the entire part of the formed body 2C is uniformly compressed and hardened. After that, the completed elbow pipe 2 is removed from the compression mold 10. In the same manner, a tee-pipe and a straight pipe are manufactured, and they are combined with each other to manufacture the handrail formed of the FRP formed body.
