To produce a hard magnetic material having excellent hard magnetic characteristics by preparing a hard magnetic material having a compsn. essentially consisting of Fe or the like and contg. Zr, rare earth elements and B and in which the crystal state of the structure is specified at a low cost.
An amorphous alloy having a compsn. essentially consisting of one or more kinds of elements among Fe, Co and Ni and contg. one or more kinds among Zr, Nb, Ta and Hf, one or more kinds among rare earth elements (such as Sc, Y, La and Ce) and B is produced by a liq. cooling method, which is subjected to heat treatment at 600 to 900°C to precipitate fine crystal phases. Thus, the hard magnetic material in which ≥70% of the structure is composed of fine crystal phases having ≤100nm average grain size, and the balance amorphous phases, and, furthermore, the above fine crystal phases are essentially consisting of Fe of fcc (body-centered cubic structure) and a compound of Fe-B and/or R2Fe14B1 is produced. In this way, the hard magnetic material high in residual magnetism and excellent in hard magnetic characteristics can be obtd.
