PURPOSE: To obtain an image forming layer having high scratch resistance by adding a specific ratio of a hardening agent beforehand to an image forming layer contg. a hydrophilic binder and immersing the image forming layer in hardening soln. contg. a specific ratio of the hardening agent after formation of pictures.
CONSTITUTION: An image forming layer wherein 0.1W0.5pt.wt. a hardening agent such as glyoxal, alum or the like is beforehand added based on 100pts.wt. a hydrophilic binder such as PVA into an image forming layer contg. a metallic compd. such as PdCl2 and a development suppressing agent (diazo compd., etc.) is provided on a substrate. Pictures are exposed to this image forming layer, and is reduced and developed by using an automatic developing machine. The developed image forming layer is immersed in hardening soln. contg. 0.5W 30wt% a hardening agent, whereby the copied pictures of high resolution free from damages in the pictures are obtained. The film of the image forming layer is hardened moderately by adding the hardening agent beforehand to prevent damage during developing and the image forming layer is made into a thoroughly hard film by hardening after developing, whereby the superior pictures are obtained.
