PURPOSE: To enable pressing of a head to be released at an arbitrary position and enable inexpensive high-speed printing, by releasing the pressing of the head by initial rotation of a head-feeding drive source when the feeding direction of the head is changed.

CONSTITUTION: With the first gear 30 first rotated clockwise by the drive source, the third gear 33 also is started rotating in the same direction, and when a pin 38 oscillates an arm 35, a T-shaped arm 31 is turned clockwise with the axis of the gear 30 as a center, and the second gear 32 is disengaged from the third gear 33. A cam plate 10 which a cam follower follows is provided on the axis of the third gear 33, whereby the pressing of the head is released at the time of the above operation. When the drive source is rotated in the opposite direction, the arm 31 rides over a hook part 35a provided at the tip of the arm 35 to turn the cam plate 10 in the reverse direction, thereby moving the head in a pressing direction. Accordingly, the pressing of the head can be released simply by the drive source, and printing speed can be enhanced.
