Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a HUD device capable of suppressing temperature rise of a liquid crystal panel of a projector.SOLUTION: A head-up display device is mounted in a vehicle to display a virtual image of an image in a form viewable by a driver by projecting the image onto a projection member in the vehicle, and includes; a projector which includes a light source for emitting light and a liquid crystal panel for forming an image, and which projects the image by having the light from the light source enter the liquid crystal panel; a magnification optical system for magnifying the image from the projector before projecting the image onto the projection member; and a control circuit. The control circuit estimates a relative position PS of the sun relative to the vehicle based on positions of the vehicle and the sun. The control circuit also determines whether to protect the liquid crystal panel or not based on a relationship between a solid angle, representing a range in which the sunlight enters the liquid crystal panel via the magnification optical system, and the estimated relative position PS of the sun. When the determination is affirmative, the control circuit causes light volume entering the liquid crystal panel to be reduced compared with when the determination is negative.
