To provide a technique enhancing visibility while reducing glare imparted to a preceding vehicle.
A headlamp device for a vehicle has headlamp units arranged in the vehicle and a control means controlling the irradiation of light by the headlamp units according to an existing area where the preceding vehicle travelling in front of one's own vehicle exists. The headlamp units are constituted so as to be able to make a partial area of a high beam orientation pattern not irradiate, the control means decides the existing area based on a correcting range widening in a predetermined angle more than a referring range including the preceding vehicle viewing from one's own vehicle, controls the headlamp units so as to make the partial area not irradiate in the case the whole of the existing area is included in the partial area, and controls the headlamp units such that the high beam orientation pattern itself is not formed in the case at least a part of the existing area is included in the area of the high beam orientation pattern area other than the partial area.
