To provide a headlamp for a vehicle, securing the stable traveling of an own vehicle by improving visibility of an own vehicle lane in which the own vehicle travels when traveling at high speed.
This headlamp includes illumination direction control means 21 (22, 120) deflecting the illumination direction of a lamp unit 110 capable of performing illumination in a light distribution pattern not dazzling an oncoming vehicle and capable of changing the illumination direction, toward the side of an oncoming lane when the vehicle travels straightly, and an oncoming vehicle detection means 34 capable of detecting the oncoming vehicle. When the illumination direction control means 21 do not detect the oncoming vehicle, the illumination direction is deflected to the side of the oncoming lane, thereby a maximum luminous intensity area which is normally directed to a shoulder rather than the own vehicle lane, that is, directed to the side opposite to the oncoming lane, is directed to the straightly advancing direction of the own vehicle lane, and the illumination of the own vehicle lane is illuminated to improve the visibility.
