To provide a hearing assisting device of a simple configuration which collects an external sound with an appropriate directivity.
An attaching part 2 which a wearer wears at its ear is provided with a directional microphone 4 so that it looks forward when worn, with a nondirectional microphone 5 provided on its side to collect sound in every direction. A mixer 12 mixes both sounds for outputting to the wearer. The mixing ratio of the mixer 12 is changed by, for example, raising the mixing ratio of the directional microphone 4, or raising the mixing ratio of the nondirectional microphone 5. With a speech speed conversion turned on when the mixing ratio of the directional microphone 4 is raised while it is turned off when the mixing ratio of the nondirectional microphone 5 is raised, the speech speed conversion is automatically turned on when a front companion or the sound of a television is paid attention while it is automatically turned off when an ambient sound is paid attention.
