Abstract:

PURPOSE: To reduce the wear and tear of surface of hearth due to contact with high-temperature molten metal and reduce the wear and tear of an hearth electrode due to the wear and tear of the hearth by avoiding the bad affection of the same to the hearth electrode as much as possible.

CONSTITUTION: In a DC arc furnace, block type refractory bricks 10 are arranged concentrically around a hearth electrode 6 provided at the central part of the hearth surface 14 of a furnace body substantially. Said refractory bricks are provided with a truncated configuration, in which 4 side surfaces of the bricks are narrowed toward the upper side of the furnace while the upper and lower surfaces of the brick are narrowed toward the center of the furnace gradually to form the surface of the hearth with a recessed configuration.
