A steel ball tank 11 has a capacity capable of keeping the whole amount of steel balls in a system. and a necessary amount is discharged from a steel ball supplier 16 and is guided into a steel ball circulation system (a system comprising: a steel ball transportation device 9, a steel ball, a steel ball distributor for distributing steel balls, a steel ball supply line 10 and dust separator 7, and a steel ball discharge chute 17). Steel balls guided into the steel ball circulation system are sprinkled to a heat exchanger 5 through a chute 6. Thereupon, the amount of sprinkling can be determined by opening closing a bypass chute valve 15 without the use of prior art rotary screw feeder. The steel ball discharge chute 17 is of an inclination type, so that it is possible to supply steel ball to the steel ball transportation device 9 with the acid of the self weight of the steel walls. It is herein possible to eliminate the prior art rotary screw feeder. Hereby, the need of a supply feeder installed on an upper portion of a GGH heat exchanger is eliminated, so that the overall height of the apparatus becomes low. in the prior art technique. The entire height of the apparatus is reduced.
