PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat exchanger using a honeycomb structure, in which the honeycomb structure has a new function, and new fluid flow can be provided.SOLUTION: A heat exchanger 1000 has a first end face 11, a second end face 12, a first side wall 21 and a second side wall 22, and has a plurality of flow channels 60 partitioned by inner walls 50 and extended from the first end face to the second end face. A connection hole 30 has a first opening 31, and second openings 32 formed on a plurality of inner walls opposed to the first opening 31 for connecting the plurality of flow channels. The flow channel having the first opening or the second opening has sealing portions 70 respectively on the first end face and the second end face, and defines a first space 41. The other flow channels define second spaces 42 extended from the first end face to the second end face. The first space and the second space are separated from each other by the inner wall. As a catalyst layer 43 is held on an inner face of the first space or the second space, a function for purifying a harmful gas included in an exhaust gas can be provided.
