PURPOSE: To obtain the heat exchanger, eliminating an useless gap which is not contributing heat radiation, small in size and having a good heat radiating property, by a method wherein the end of a fluid tube is connected to a header plate with the elliptical section itself.
CONSTITUTION: The end of the fluid tube 13, provided with a multitude of heat dissipating fins 14 in parallel and having the elliptical section, is inserted into the collared opening 11a of the header plate 11, the whole of the end of the tube is expanded into an elliptical shape at the inserting part, the collared opening 12a of a gasket 12 is pressed into and interposed inbetween the expanded part 13a and the internal surface of the collared opening 11a of the header plate 11 to attach the tube to the header plate 11 air-tightly, and the long arc part, symmetrical to the long axis of the ellipse at the opening end of the expanded part 13a, is expanded further to obtain a retainer 13b, holding the tube so as to prevent the slip-off thereof from the header plate 11 by a force applied to F- direction by pressure fluid in the tube. According to this method, the useless part, in which the elliptical section is turning into a circular section gradually, may be eliminated.
