Abstract:
A heat exchanger (1), especially for a pressurized water cooled nuclear reactor (PWR), has a cylindrical outer shell (2) with its axis (8) vertical when in service, and a bundle of tubes fixed to holes in a tube plate (4) connected to a water chamber (5) with openings in its wall (6). The central part of the chamber forms a solid base (14) for the heat exchanger and has an inner surface (14a) in the shape of a shallow cone, or flat, with its central point (O) in line with the axis (8).
