Title:
LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3170051
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To manufacture the liquid crystal display device at low price without providing any touch sensor by forming a display-surface side transparent substrate of a flexible film substrate and detecting variation in interval between signal lines of pixels which is caused when the surface is pressed.
CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal material is charged between an upper and a lover transparent substrate where lateral upper signal lines 1 and longitudinal lower signal lines 2 coupling respective pixels are formed respectively, and the signal lines 1 and 2 cross each other across the liquid crystal layer. Resistances R and capacitances C of the liquid crystal layer are present at the parts where the signal lines 1 and 2 cross each other in multi-level. Further, the flexible film substrate is used as the upper transparent substrate and electrode films of respective pixels and signal lines 1 are formed of transparent conductive films. Therefore, when the upper transparent substrate is pressed, the capacitance C at the position becomes large and the voltage between the electrodes drops. This voltage is compared with the voltage obtained when the substrate is not touched. i.e., a reference voltage to detect the variation in the interval between the transparent substrates in the form of variation in voltage.
