To provide a method for producing a high-strength heat-insulating material, slightly adversely affecting human bodies due to no asbestos contained, having excellent heat resistance, mechanical strength, toughness, hot repeated compressive strength, etc., while having good processability.
This heat insulating material is obtained by impregnating an inorganic fiber sheet with a paste comprising paste solids composed of 40-80 wt.% of a heat-resistant powder, 5-40 wt.% of an aluminum primary phosphate, 5-20 wt.% of a curing agent for the aluminum primary phosphate, and 5-25 wt.% of an organic binder, forming paste-impregnated sheets, laminating the sheets and hot-press molding the resultant laminate. The heat-insulating material is composed of 10-50 wt.% of the inorganic fiber sheet and 50-90 wt.% of a cured composition which is a cured product of the paste.
