The heat pump type water heater is provided with a refrigerating cycle constituted by successively connecting a water heat exchanger 3, an expansion valve 5, and an air heat exchanger 6 to a compressor 1 through a refrigerant pipe 2; and a water feeding pipe 8 inserted into the water heat exchanger 3 in order to feed water and perform heat exchange with a high-pressure refrigerant flowing through the refrigerant pipe 2. A low-pressure refrigerant flowing through a suction side of the refrigerant pipe connected to the compressor 1 is guided to an intermediate part of the water heat exchanger 3, and heat exchange is performed.
