To carry out defrosting of an evaporator without interrupting hot water supply operation even in a low temperature of the winter season, in a heat pump water heater.
The heat pump water heater 100 is provided with a heat pump circuit having a water-coolant heat exchanger 2 passing through a coolant and water, means 14, 15, 17, 19, 23 for supplying the water passing through the water-coolant heat exchanger to a demander, and a hot water storage tank 10 storing water subjected to heat exchange in a water heat exchanger as high temperature hot water than hot water passing through the hot water supply means. The heat pump circuit has compressors 1a, 1b, a water-coolant heat exchanger passing through a coolant compressed by the compressors, first and second expansion valves 3a, 3b; 5a, 5b expanding the coolant subjected to heat exchange in the water-coolant heat exchanger, first and second evaporators 4a, 4b; 6a, 6b evaporating the coolant having passed through the first and second expansion valves, and a body housing these. The first evaporator is arranged in an outside air side, and the second evaporator is arranged more to a body interior side than the first evaporator.
