Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a high-strength composite material useful as a slider for pantograph or a brake friction material by containing a heat-resistant aluminum fiber prepared by covering the surface of aluminum with aluminum nitride.

CONSTITUTION: The surface of aluminum fiber is coated with aluminum nitride by treating the fiber in nitrogen flow at a high temperature to obtain a heat- resistant aluminum fiber not melting nor deforming even in heating at a temperature above melting point of aluminum. The heat-resistant aluminum fiber is combined with carbon raw material and press-molded at a high temperature to afford the objective high-strength aluminum-carbon composite material having excellent preservability of shape without generating melting out nor deformation of aluminum.
