Abstract:
PURPOSE:To provide a polyimide covered optical fiber, which is capable of long distance transmission and excels in heat resistance, fatigue characteristic, and resistance against hydrogen. CONSTITUTION:A covering layer 3 of soft silicone resin having a low tensile modulus of elasticity is put on an optical fiber 1 as surrounding it. The tensile modulus is below 50kgf/mm<2>, while the film thickness of the covering layer lies in the extent 4-50mum. Another covering layer 2 of polyimide resin as heat resistant resin is put on the silicone layer 3 in such a way as surrounding it. In side of the silicone layer 3, a charbon layer 4 is formed. This carbon layer serves for enhancing the fatigue characteristic and resistance against hydrogen, while the soft silicon resin relieves hardening contraction of polyimide resin.
