Abstract:
PURPOSE:To enable the use of an optical fiber at high temp. by rendering heat resistance to a material for the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:The core and/or clad of a plastic optical fiber is formed with fluorinated polyimide. Since this fluorinated polyimide obtd. by substituting C-F bonds for C-H bonds in the chemical structure of polyimide as a material having superior heat resistance has a small optical loss in a long wavelength region, the resulting plastic optical fiber has improved light transmittance in the region from a visible region to a long wavelength region as well as improved heat resistance.
