In the heat-sensitive recording medium, which has a heat-sensitive recording layer containing a colorless or light-colored electron donating leuco dye, and an electron accepting developer on a support, and a protective layer on the heat-sensitive recording layer, the heat-sensitive recording layer contains at least one specific dihydroxydiphenylsulfone compound as an electron accepting developer, and the protective layer is obtained by being brought in press contact with a heated mirror-surfaced drum in a state of moistening, and by thereafter being dryed.
