To provide technology for allowing more suitable heat storage of a heat storage system for an internal combustion engine which is automatically stopped.
The heat storage system for the internal combustion engine which has an automatic stop means for automatically stopping the internal combustion engine comprises a first circuit in which heat medium is circulated via a heat storage container and the internal combustion engine and a second circuit which is communicated with the first circuit and in which the heat medium is circulated via an engine relative element and the internal combustion engine. In stopping the internal combustion engine, the heat medium is circulated in the second circuit and supplied to the engine relative element. In operating the internal combustion engine, the heat medium is circulated in the first circuit. Thus, in collecting the heat medium into the heat storage container (S101, S102), when the internal combustion engine is stopped by the automatic stop means (S103), the first circuit is shut off (S104).
