PURPOSE: To permit the extension of heating and holding time or slow cooling time without changing the speed of a conveying belt by disposing openable and closable partition walls and radiant tubes which can be changed over for heating and cooling to the heating and holding zone and slow cooling zone of a heat treatment furnace for metallic powder.
CONSTITUTION: While the metallic powder 10 for powder metallurgy supplied from a raw material charging port 12 onto the endless conveying belt 14 is moved on hearth rolls 22 in the furnace, a non-oxidative or reducing atmosphere is maintained in the furnace by an atmosphere gas 16 and the metallic powder is continuously heat-treated in the heating and holding zone 4, the slow cooling zone 6 and cooling zone 8. The partition walls 201W205 which can be opened and closed perpendicularly to the progressing direction are provided to the above-mentioned heating and holding zone 4 and the slow cooling zone 6 of the heat treatment furnace 2 constituted in the above- mentioned manner to segment the zones to zones 341W345 and further the radiant tubes 34 which can be changed over to heating and cooling are disposed to part of the zone 4 and the zone 6. The heat treatment meeting the fluctuation of the quality of the metallic powder 10 is thus made executable regardless of the speed of the conveying belt 14 without decreasing the productivity.
