A burner attachment hole (4) is formed at a lower-end shifted part of a furnace wall (3) surrounding an in-furnace space (2). A matter (7) to be heat-treated received in the in-furnace space (2) is heated by spouting a combustion gas (16) from a tip of an industrial burner (11) attached to the burner attachment hole (4) to the in-furnace space (2). The industrial burner (11) comprises an exhaust gas inlet (12) and an exhaust gas passage (13) in communication with the exhaust gas inlet. The exhaust gas inlet (12) is opened in the burner attachment hole (4). An exhaust gas introduction port (9) is opened at the upper part of the furnace wall (3). An exhaust gas guide passage (10) for making the exhaust gas introduction port (9) and the burner attachment hole (4) communicate with each other is formed in a heavy thickness of the furnace wall (3).
