Abstract:
PURPOSE: To transmit heat and moisture robbed of a patient's expiration passed through the device to intake gas by bending a band-like member like a ring-like member, and extending the pleats in the radial direction of the ring-like member on two parallel planes substantially intersecting perpendicularly to the flow direction of inspiration gas flowing through an exchange element. CONSTITUTION: In order to manufacture an exchange element 4, a filter paper band is folded in pleats at equal intervals to form pleats. After that, the band is compressed into a pack to bring adjacent pleats into contact with each other. One surface of the pack is covered with a flexible and adhesive sealing material 50, the pleats of the surface are sealed to form an inner edge part 44, and the opposite pleat end parts of the pack are drawn and rounded to form a ring-like member. In the case of use, an inlet 2 is connected to a ventilation circuit which has a ventilator or anaesthetic device or is opened to the air. When a patient inhales, gas enters downward through the inlet 2 and the direction of flow is turned outward in the radial direction by a flow direction turning device 16. Due to pressure difference crossing the exchange element 4, gas flows through inclined surfaces between the pleats 41, 42 to go out of the device through an outlet 3. When the patient exhales, the gas flows through the device from the outlet to the inlet in the opposite direction.
