To increase an operation rate of a heater, wherein an air inflow into a heating furnace is prevented so that oxidation of a carbon material which constitutes a heater and a heat insulation material is prevented thus extending the lifetime of the carbon material and reducing the wear and frequency of replacement of the carbon material.
A high-temperature heater for bar-shaped works comprises a high- temperature heating furnace 1 which is provided with upper and lower openings 1a, 1b and holds the inside thereof at a high temperature by heating, a rod 5 which suspends and lower a work between the upper and lower openings 1a, 1b, and a gas supply device 7 which supplies inert gas to the inside of the high-temperature heating furnace 1. The high-temperature heater further comprises a vertically extendible and shrinkable seal device 12 which suspends the rod 5 from the top thereof while airtightly enclosing the rod 5 and the work 6, and a rod drive device 20 which elevates the rod 5 while extending or shrinking the seal device 12 by elevating the top portion and the bottom portion of the seal device 12. Due to such construction, it becomes possible to heat the inside of the heating furnace 1 while blowing the inert gas into the heating furnace 1 and to stop supplying of the inert gas after cooling the heating furnace 1.
