PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve durability against the pull-out of a carcass ply by enhancing the mooring capacity of the carcass ply in a heavy duty tire having a bead part structure in which the carcass ply is folded to be wound around a bead core.SOLUTION: An improved heavy duty tire, whose carcass 2 comprises a body part 2A and a winding-up part 2B and which is mounted on a rim 20 in which the taper angle of a bead sheet is 15°, has the following bead core properties: the bead core has a hexagonal cross section; in the cross section in a tire width direction, the bead core is in the inside of a tire radial direction with respect to the perpendicular line X drawn from the curvature center of a rim flange 21 to the carcass body part; the line segment Y being a maximal breadth of the line segments connecting the apexes of the bead core inclines in the range of 15°±5° with respect to a tire axis direction to the same direction as that of the bead sheet; and in the sides composing the bead core, the ratio of the length (a) of a side A having the smallest angle between the side and the perpendicular line X facing that line X to the sum (b+c) of the lengths (b), (c) of the sides B, C crossing with a perpendicular line Z drawn to the line segment Y is 1/3 or more but 1/2 or less.
