To provide a heavy load conveying device and heavy load conveying method capable of performing heavy load conveying work efficiently and safely in an inexpensive cargo storage section such as a container.
The heavy load conveying device comprises a heavy load conveying carriage that is disposed vertically movably and is equipped with a pedestal section for mounting a heavy load and a moving means capable of moving it horizontally, rails that guide the heavy load conveying carriage and are disposed with an interval, and a connecting member for connecting each end section of the each rail or a proximity section. Each connecting member is provided with a bearing having facing sprocket shafts including each sprocket, and a chain wound in an endless annular shape is disposed between the facing sprockets. The chain wound in an endless annular shape has a pressing/pulling fixture for pressing or pulling the heavy load mounted on the pedestal section of the heavy load conveying carriage in the longitudinal direction of the rails, and has a driving device for rotating one of the sprockets.
