To grasp the position of a heavy machine or geography around the heavy machine by measuring overhead view geography including the heavy machine even in the deep sea.
In a heavy machine control apparatus 1, an exploitation machine 2 which is movable on the seafloor is connected to a mother ship 3 via a first umbilical cable 4A. A floating body 7 is connected from the exploitation machine 2 via a second umbilical cable 4B and floated above and at a lower side of the floating body 7, a sonar head 8 is provided. The sonar head 8 oscillates ultrasonic waves, obtains an echo image from the reflection thereof, and monitors the exploitation machine 2 or/and the geography around that. The echo image can be received by the mother ship via the second and first umbilical cables 4B and 4A. The second umbilical cable 4B is mounted so as to be wound around a winch provided in the exploitation machine 2, and a height of the sonar head 8 can be adjusted by taking up and feeding out the cable.
