Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently biodegrade heavy oil spilled to ocean or the like without formation of any harmful byproduct so as to prevent environmental pollution by contacting the heavy oil with a carrier immobilized with a nutrient and petroleum-degrading microorganismal consortia isolated from natural seawater. SOLUTION: Heavy oil is biodegraded by contacting itself with a carrier immobilized with a nutrient and petroleum-degrading microorganismal consortia isolated from natural seawater and comprising microorganisms belonging to the genus Alcanivorax such as GR211-P1 strain (FERM P-17394) or GR211-P2 strain (FERM P-17395) and the genus Bacillus such as GR211-W strain (FERM P-17396) or GR211-Y strain (FERM P-17397); wherein the above carrier is such as to be prepared based on an alginate and hen's egg.
