To attain a light-weight, a reinforced shaft, a reduced number of components, and easy adjustment, by structuring an adjusting means for the height of a walking stick by making a grip itself slidable on and fixable to the shaft.

An inserting part 12 of the shaft 1 on which the grip is inserted is provided with engaging parts 13 composed of a plurality of recesses along the longitudinal direction. The grip 2 is provided in the end part with an insertion hole 21 in which a sliding member 25 is fixed to the inner wall and in which the inserting part 12 penetrates to slidably engage therewith. The grip is provided with a flange section 22 that, having a storing space inside, projects like a sword guard nearly orthogonally to the penetrating direction of the insertion hole 21, and provided with a holder section 23. An engaged part 34 projecting forward in the lower part inside the insertion hole 21 is fitted to any one recess of the engaging part 13, with the grip 2 locked thereby coupled with a pot-hanger-like working force produced by a load on the holder section 23. The engaged part 34 can be released from the engaging part 13 by turning the grip 2 counterclockwise, which makes the position adjustable.
