To provide a height adjusting mechanism capable of adjusting the height of a recording part provided in a recording apparatus with a simple configuration.
The height adjusting mechanism has a cam member 11 provided with a plurality of cam surfaces 11b and a receiving part 8d holding the cam member 11. The height adjusting mechanism can change the height of a carriage 1, whose height changes together with the central axis of the cam member 11, with respect to a platen 5 by changing the cam surface 11b contacting the receiving part 8d. The outer peripheral surface of the cam member 11 is composed of the cam surface 11b and a connecting surface 11c. In a control part 100 for controlling a motor 9 that rotates the cam member 11, the maximum value of a current to be imparted to the motor 9 for sliding each connecting surface 11c against the receiving part 8d is recorded as a reference value. The control part specifies the cam surface 11b in contact with the receiving part 8d by comparing the maximum value of the current imparted to the motor 9 just before the cam surface 11b contacts the receiving part 8d with the reference value.
