A hemming unit 10 brings a movable die 18 into contact with the back surface of a workpiece, and moves a hemming roller 30 in the elongating direction Z of the flange 17 while turning and bringing the hemming roller 30 into contact with the standing flange 17 of the edge portion of a workpiece, and bends the flange 17 toward the inside of the workpiece by catching the flange 17 by means of the hemming roller 30 and the movable die 18. The movable die 18 projects outward from the edge portion of the workpiece in the standing direction Y of the flange 17, and has a tilting portion 63a to be brought into contact with the hemming roller 30. The tilting portion 63a has a tilting surface, the height of which varies in the elongating direction Z. The hemming roller 30 rolls in a state that it is brought into contact with the tilting surface, and forms the gently changing shape in the bending angle of the flange 17 according to the hemming portions.
