To bend a hemming portion so as to have an appropriate shape by surely bringing a workpiece into contact with a die even when the workpiece has an erroneous shape with respect to the die, and further to prevent the strain and deformation of the workpiece.
A hemming unit 10 comprises a movable die 18 to be brought into contact with a workpiece, that is a wheel arch portion 16 of a vehicle 12, and a robot 22 which moves the movable die 18 and has a hemming unit 20 at its tip end. The movable die 18 comprises a first groove 52 and a second groove 54 extending along the flange 17, and a suction mechanism 58 to be connected to the wheel arch portion 16. The hemming unit 20 carries out the hemming of the flange 17 by means of a hemming roller 30 while moving along the first groove 52 and the second groove 54. The suction mechanism 58 has a suction portion 67a made of elastic material, and can extend and contract in the pressing direction of the hemming roller 30.
