To obtain a new compound exhibiting high herbicidal activity over a wide concentration range, capable of selectively controlling weeds such as Echinochloa crus-galli or Setaria viridis which is undesirable to crops such as maize or Oryza sativa and favorably decomposing in soil.
This compound is represented by formula I [A is a (substituted) aryl or the like; B is a 6-membered (substituted)nitrogen-containing heteroaromatic; R is a halogen or the like; X is oxygen or the like; Z is CH or the like; (n) is 0-3; with the proviso that when Z is CH, B is a (substituted) pyridine excluding 4-phenoxy-2-(4-ethoxypirido-2-yl)-6-methylpyrimidine, etc.], e.g. 2-(6-chloro-3-pyridyl)-6-methyl-4-(1-methyl-3-trifluoromethylpyrazole-5-yloxy) pyrimidine. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a compound of formula II (L is a leaving group) with a compound of the formula A-XM1 (M1 is a metal) in the presence or absence of a solvent such as acetonitrile and in the presence of a basic compound such as potassium carbonate.
