NEW MATERIAL:O-(3,7-dichloro-8-quinolinecarbonyl)oxyimino-2-propylidene of formula.
USE: Useful as a herbicide free from phytotoxicity to rice plant and applicable for the early treatment before or after the transplantation of paddy rice plant to effect sure control of cockspur-grass. It has excellent adsorptivity to soil and residual activity against cockspur-grass. It exhibits high controlling activity against barnyard grass growing after cockspur-grass to enable complete killing of the grass. Applicable also to various crops other than rice plant. Satisfactory effect can be attained in the control of various weeds in unplowed land.
PREPARATION: The compound of formula can be produced by adding thionyl chloride to 3,7-dichloro-8-quinolinecarboxylic acid, refluxing the mixture to obtain 3,7-dichloro-8-quinolinecarboxylic acid chloride, removing thionyl chloride by distillation, dissolving the distillation residue in DMF, adding acetoxime, reacting the components with each other under heating and stirring and finally distilling out DMF.
