To provide a highly-reliable hermetic compressor capable of preventing damage to a cover caused by liquid compression without impairing a silencing effect by a simple structure.
The hermetic compressor includes the cover 9 covering the delivery port 7a of a compression mechanism 7. A compressed fluid is delivered from the delivery port 7a to a first chamber 21 in the cover 9, subsequently passes through a passage 23 between the cover 9 and the compression mechanism 7, and is delivered to a second chamber 22 provided in the cover 9 beyond the passage 23. After that, the compressed fluid is made pass from the second chamber in the cover 9 through a passage 24 communicating with a lower bearing, a cylinder and an upper bearing, respectively, provided in the compression mechanism 7 formed in a compression mechanism, delivered to a space 13 at the side of an electric motor in a sealed vessel, and delivered to the outside of the sealed vessel 1. A U-shaped slit is formed at the periphery of the cover 9 of the first chamber in the vicinity of the delivery port of the compression mechanism 7. When the delivery fluid delivered from the delivery port of the compression mechanism 7 is a liquid refrigerant, a part of the liquid refrigerant is delivered into the sealed vessel 1 at this side of the passage in the cover of the compression mechanism 7.
