To overcome the following problems: as the existing noise reducing technology for a hermetic compressor, a technology is employed for reducing noise by repeating compression and expansion when compressed gas, compressed in a compression mechanism section, is passed through the inside of a silencing cover; however, in the hermetic compressor of a type mainly used currently with the silencing cover provided to the flange portion of an upper bearing, it is difficult to ensure a clearance with the other component and it is impossible to secure the sufficient volume of a silencing space passage, by the existing structure.
In this hermetic compressor, a recessed portion 7 is formed on the end surface of the upper bearing composing the silencing space passage 61 in order to compensate the insufficient volume of the silencing space. Thereby, it is possible to sufficiently secure the inner volume of the silencing space required for providing a silencing effect by the compression and expansion of the gas.
