PURPOSE: To obtain a new heterocyclic compd. having angiotensin II antagonism and useful to treat hypertension and congestive heart failure.
CONSTITUTION: This heterocyclic compd. is a compd. represented by formula I or its pharmaceutically usable salt, e.g. 4'-bromomethylbiphenyl-2-tert- butylsulfonamide. In formula I, R1 is a group represented by formula II (where R24 is H, an aryl, F, Cl, etc.) or formula III (where R26 is H, an aryl, F, etc.); each of R2a and R2b is H, Cl, etc.; R3a is H, a 1-6 C alkyl, etc.; R3b is H, NO2, etc.; R6 is an aryl, a 1-9 C alkyl, etc.; X is CO, O, etc.; A-B-C-D is atoms constituting a (satd.) 6-membered hetero ring bonded to imidazole contg. 1-3 N atoms; and E is a single bond, CH(OH), etc. The compd. represented by formula I is obtd. by dissolving an alkali metallic salt having a hetero ring represented by formula IV and a deriv. represented by formula V into a dipolar aprotic solvent and allowing them to react with an alkylating agent at 20°C to the reflux temp. of the solvent for 1-24 hr.
