Abstract:

NEW MATERIAL: A compound of formula I (R1 is C1-40 linear, branched, or cyclic group containing 20-80 wt.% C of diol wt.; X is formulae II-IV, NO2, CO, tert. or quat. amine, SO3M, OSO3M and/or COOM; R2 is H or CH3; R3 is O, OCH2 or COO; M is H, Li, Na, K or NH4; M1 and M2 are each H, Li, Na, K or alkyl).

USE: The compound is a constituent component of polyurethane elastomer with special properties, e.g. radiation curability, good pigment adhesion or low surface tension, and it has a comb structure with highly elastic surface coatings which adhere well to various base surfaces.

PROCESS: A compound of formula V is reacted with the activated group of isophorone diisocyanate at 10-60°C using optionally a catalyst, and then the second isocyanate group is reacted with diethanolamine without isolating the intermediate to give the compound of formula I.
